The ordinations involved that of the priesthood for Francis Park, and diaconate for Johan Kim and Salesio Yang.
These ordinations were the final of three commemorative events for the 30th anniversary of the presence of the Order of St Augustine in Korea. The actual 30th anniversary day was 6 September 2015. It had been on 6 September 1985 that the first Augustinian friars had moved to Korea - two Australian and two English priests, one of whom still serves in Korea today.
The first ceremony for the thirtieth anniversary was celebrated on the feast of St Augustine on 28 August 2015, and was followed by a second event on 10 September 2015, which is the feast day of the Augustinian saint, Nicholas of Tolentine. The latter occasion saw the formal acceptance into Augustinian community living of two more Korean candidates for the Order, aged 37 and 34 years. The third event was the three ordinations at Paju, as mentioned above.
The Augustinians in Korea first accepted Korean candidates in 1990 and still regards the task of training these first indigenous Augustinians as its primary ministry. The Augustinian Delegation of Korea now contains about twenty members, some who are priests, and some who are non-clerical members, and others who are still in their initial formation. All except one of them are Korean.
The ministries of the Order in Korea presently include a retreat house in downtown Incheon, which also offers opportunities to both religious and lay people for spiritual guidance and direction; retreat opportunities in the countryside at Yeoncheon; the social welfare apostolate (Group Home for boys in Incheon from dysfunctional families) in Incheon, and regular commitments to supply Masses in parishes where there is a need.
