It is conducted by the Order of St Augustine since its foundation in 1948 at Whinstanes on the northern side of the Brisbane River.
The 2015 academic year has seen a new lay Principal, Mr Mark Stower. His eight predecessors in that role were Mr Dennis Harvey (2010 – 2014), and from 1948 to 2009 the first seven Principals (Rectors) were all Augustinians.
On Tuesday 3 February the College community gathered together in the commodious Goold Hall on the school campus for the Mass of the Holy Spirit. Father Dave Austin, who is Prior Provincial of the Augustinians of Australasia, concelebrated the Mass with College Chaplain, Fr Peter Wieneke. During the liturgy the Student Leadership Team of College Captain, Vice-Captain - Louis Cassidy and Student Council President recited their pledge to serve the college community through the sharing of their gifts and talents. This was followed by the Year Twelve students reciting their leadership pledge to be fine role models as leaders of the student body.
On the weekend of 31 January and 2 February the 2015 Music Camp with students from Loreto College took place, and the culminating concert of Sunday evening showcased of the talents of the students from both Colleges. During the week beginning on 9 February students from the Junior School and Year 8 will attending their respective camps. On Monday evening 9 February the first meeting for 2015 of the Parents and Friends Association took place.
As indicated above, Mr Mark Stower has become Principal of Villanova. He began his teaching career in 1981 at Marcellin College in Enoggera on the northern side of Brisbane. Since then he has taught in a variety of Catholic Colleges, both Independent and Systemic in a number of dioceses. He has been involved in Senior Leadership since 1991 and Villanova is his third Principalship after being Principal of The Cathedral College, Rockhampton (2003 - 2009) and Mt Maria College, Mitchelton (2010 - 2014).
