He is Fr Czar Emmanuel Alvarez of the Cebu Province; he lived and studied in Rome from 1987 until receiving a doctorate in Theology and Patristic Sciences in 2010.
This was his second lecturing visit to Australia, and this time his itinerary was as follows: To Mareeba to talk to a meeting of the Friends of St Augustine group, to meet the Filipino community of the parish, and to preach on Augustine at Sunday Masses. In Brisbane he conducted a day entitled Mercy and Justice in St Augustine, which was part of the 2016 Friends of St Augustine Lay Congress that was this year conducted regionally in three venues.
In Sydney he taught two courses, each lasting a week, at the Catholic Institute of Sydney, which institution Augustinian initial formation students attend for philosophy and theology. His two courses were Issues in Augustinian Theology and City of God. By completing three related assignments before the end of the next semester, our students receive CIS credit for these courses.
At St Clair parish in western Sydney on Friday evening 22 July he presented a talk to parishioners, and on Saturday repeated the Friends Lay Congress (Sydney region). On Sunday 24 July he gave input to a Parish Assembly at the Augustinian Parish of North Harbour (northern Sydney). His final contribution began on Friday, 29 July 2016 in the Augustinian parish at South Yarra (Melbourne), featuring the third and final regional segment of the 2016 Friends of St Augustine Lay Congress.
Fr Czar is based in the formation community in Manila for the Augustinian seminarians of the Augustinian Province of Cebu.
