The 184th General Chapter of the Order of Saint Augustine began on the Solemnity of our Holy Father Augustine with Morning Prayer in the Community Chapel of St Monica’s College in the centre of Rome.

New Augustinians in Korea

The Augustinian Delegation of Korea (which comes within the Province of Australia) on 8th February 2014 saw three more Koreans take Augustinian vows. This happened on Saturday, 8th February 2014 at St Rita's Spirituality Centre at Incheon, South Korea.

New OSA leadership

At the 184th Augustinian General Chapter in September 2013, a new Prior General needed to be elected because Fr Robert Prevost OSA had already served the maximum twelve years allowed in that office. His replacement by election is Father Alejandro Moral Anton.

On the way to sainthood

On 9th December 2013 Pope Francis declared that a noted German Augustinian of the twentieth century was to be given the title of Venerable. The Pope who is the one authorized to declare this, which is two steps away from being officially declared a saint by the Catholic Church.

Upgraded Augustinian status in West Papua

The former Delegation of West Papua (Indonesia) was unanimously voted by the general Chapter of August 2013 to be raised to the status of a vicariate within the Order.

Philippines earthquake

An earthquake of 7.2 magnitude struck the Cebu and Bohol region of the southern Philippines on the morning of Tuesday, 15th October 2013. As well as the loss of over a hundred lives and impacting on the 2,800,000 residents in the region, the event gained media attention also because of damage to some historic church buildings that had withstood previous earthquakes.

Building a fence is just the beginning

Two journeys overseas that could not be mistaken for commercial guided tours were conducted by Australia’s two Augustinian primary/secondary colleges during 2013, and both were a continuation of the pattern of previous similar ventures.
