The anniversary celebrations are meaningful but relatively low-key, following as they do a more vigorous highlighting of the silver jubilee five years ago. The thirtieth anniversary is being recalled in a number of ceremonies and events that are routinely scheduled to occur each year.
The opening acknowledgment of the thirtieth anniversary was linked to the feast of St Augustine on 28 August, and was followed on 10 September 2015, which is the feast day of the Augustinian saint, Nicholas of Tolentine. The latter occasion saw the formal acceptance into Augustinian community living of two more Korean candidates for the Order, aged 37 and 34 years.
The final anniversary commemoration will occur on 30 December 2015 to coincide with the ordination to the priesthood of one Korean Augustinian and the ordination to diaconate of two other community members.
The ministries of the Order in Korea presently include a retreat house in downtown Incheon, which also offers opportunities to both religious and lay people for spiritual guidance and direction; retreat opportunities in the countryside at Yeoncheon; the social welfare apostolate (Group Home for boys in Incheon from dysfunctional families) in Incheon, and regular commitments to supply Masses in parishes where there is a need.
At the time of the Delegation Assembly of January 2014, the Augustinian Delegation of Korea had eleven Korean-born members in solemn vows (six priests, four lay brothers, and one clerical student), six in simple vows and one postulant; by November 2015 these figures have increased slightly. Until January 2019 one Australian priest remained there as the only expatriate Augustinian in the Delegation.
The Augustinians are one of the pioneering missionary orders involved in the evangelisation in East Asia and have maintained an active presence in the region over four hundred years. Even so, it was only in 1985 that the OSA came to the already well-established and active Korean Church.
